On January 28, 2025, a preparatory meeting for the 12th session of the Russian-Algerian Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation took place in the capital of Algeria. The Chairman of the Russian-Algerian Business Council, Ahmed Azimov, participated in the meeting. The main topic of discussion was the strengthening of economic cooperation between the two countries.

According to the Algerian News Agency, the Director General of the Europe Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Diaspora Abroad, and African Affairs, Toufik Djouama, stated that "this meeting is being held within the framework of strengthening dialogue and high-level consultations between the two countries to develop bilateral cooperation and deepen ties."

Toufik Djouama also noted: "The organization of this meeting coincides with a period when bilateral relations are being strengthened thanks to the steps taken by Algeria and Russia in recent years."

He added, "Holding the session will provide a new opportunity to reinforce the foundations of bilateral cooperation and deepen economic and technical collaboration in many areas of mutual interest."

Algeria and Russia have been cooperating within the framework of the OPEC+ alliance to reduce oil production since its inception in 2016. This collaboration aims to restore stability in the global oil market.

Toufik Djouama called on Russian companies to invest in Algeria, taking advantage of opportunities provided by the new investment legislation, as well as incentive measures being implemented by the authorities to attract direct foreign investment.

The Algerian representative emphasized the importance of Algeria’s accession to the African Continental Free Trade Area, stating that "this makes Algeria an ideal gateway to the African market."

According to the Algerian Press Agency, the Director of the Department for the Development of Bilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Pavel Kalmychek, confirmed Russia's commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and expanding areas of partnership with Algeria, including in economic, scientific, and cultural sectors.

The 11th session of the Russian-Algerian Intergovernmental Joint Commission was held on October 25-26, 2023, in Moscow.
