Kazan, May 15, 2025

As part of the International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World,” a session titled “Prerequisites for Building a Global Islamic Ecosystem” was held, organized by AAOIFI – the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions. The session was moderated by Behnam Gurban-Zade, Managing Director at PJSC Sberbank.

Among the key speakers was Ahmed Azimov, Chairman of the Russian-Algerian Business Council. In his remarks, he emphasized that Russia’s involvement in the development of the Islamic ecosystem represents not only a contribution to international partnership, but also a strategic opportunity: privileged access to new markets, investments, and technologies. This, he noted, enhances Russia’s role and significance within the Islamic world.

He further stated that one of the top priorities today is not only the standardization of Islamic finance, but also the formation of a coordinated global platform that unites the efforts of governments, financial institutions, investors, and Shariah scholars. According to Azimov, Russia, with its strong reputation in the Islamic world and its advanced technological and intellectual capabilities, is well positioned to make a meaningful contribution to building a sustainable architecture for the Islamic economy — from digital solutions and infrastructure to effective models of coordination and intergovernmental cooperation.
