On April 20, 2026, the round table “Russia–Algeria: Pharmaceuticals and Medical Technologies” was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. The event was organized by the Russian-Algerian Business Council with the support of the Chamber. The session was moderated by the Chairman of the Council, Ahmed Azimov.

Abdelhamid Cherfaoui, founder and president of Les Laboratoires Frater-Razes—one of Algeria’s leading private pharmaceutical companies with over 30 years of experience—shared insights on building international partnerships and emphasized the strategic complementarity of the Russian and Algerian pharmaceutical industries. Nadia Ougergouz, Director of the Department of International Cooperation at the National Agency of Pharmaceutical Products of Algeria (ANPP), outlined the regulator’s priorities in international cooperation and confirmed interest in strengthening partnership with Russia. Yacine Khelis, Director of Ibn Rochd Laboratories, presented an overview of Algeria’s diagnostics market and highlighted prospects for joint cooperation.

The central theme of the round table was the concept of Algeria as a regional hub for Russian businesses entering the markets of Africa and the Middle East. Anton Shcherbakov, Managing Partner at GEXP, presented the hub strategy, outlining three key advantages of Algeria: market scale (the second-largest pharmaceutical market in Africa), preferential conditions for local manufacturers, and its strategic geographic location. He emphasized the bilateral nature of cooperation: Algeria is not only a market for Russian solutions but also a country with a strong domestic pharmaceutical base, whose competencies and products may be in demand in Russia.

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a trilateral agreement between Les Laboratoires Frater-Razes (Abdelhamid Cherfaoui), Biorasi Services (Yan Sukhanov), and GEXP (Anton Shcherbakov) on the localization of Russian molecular diagnostics technologies in Algeria. This marks the first practical project implemented within the hub strategy presented at the round table. The business program concluded with B2B and B2G meetings with the Algerian delegation.

The event brought together representatives and executives from more than 50 Russian pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, as well as a high-level Algerian delegation comprising leaders of key industry companies and representatives of the national regulator.

The Russian-Algerian Business Council continues to build a results-oriented framework for bilateral cooperation—focusing on joint ventures, localization projects, and proven mechanisms that translate intentions into tangible outcomes.
