On 29 September, Russian-Algerian Business Council (RABC) Chairman Ahmed Azimov and Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), discussed economic and investment cooperation by video conference. Algeria’s ambassador to Russia also took part, according to Algeria Press Service, citing AAPI.
The participants discussed developing a joint work programme to present investment opportunities in Algeria to Russian businesses and strengthen contacts between the agency and the business community. AAPI linked the initiative to the outcomes of the 13th session of the Russian-Algerian intergovernmental commission, held in Moscow on 24–26 June.
Rekkache identified agriculture, energy and renewables, industry and manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment among the promising sectors. The agency said it was ready to support investors and facilitate projects.
The meeting also covered preparations for an Algeria Day on the sidelines of the Russia–Africa Summit and its economic forum, which AAPI said were planned for Moscow in late October. The event would present Algeria’s investment opportunities.
Azimov highlighted Russian companies’ interest in investing in Algeria and the importance of technology transfer and the exchange of expertise. The Council expressed its readiness to help promote investment opportunities and encourage partnerships between companies. No agreements resulting from the meeting were announced.
