Algeria and Oman’s Suhail Bahwan Holding are moving to the implementation phase of a project to expand the Algerian-Omani Fertilizer Company, AOA, in the Arzew industrial zone.
The project provides for construction of a third ammonia and urea production train. Once commissioned, it is expected to increase the complex’s total capacity by 50%.
Gas processing and export growth
AOA is a joint venture between Suhail Bahwan Group and Algeria’s state-owned energy company Sonatrach. Expansion of the complex will allow Algeria to direct additional natural gas volumes into higher-value industrial products.
The Algerian side has confirmed its readiness to supply the additional feedstock required by the project. The new capacity is expected to strengthen the country’s position in the international nitrogen fertilizer market.
New demand for equipment and services
Implementation may create opportunities for suppliers of industrial equipment, automation and control systems, compressors, engineering solutions, energy-efficiency technologies and maintenance services.
The project is relevant to Russian companies with expertise in oil and gas engineering, chemical machinery and mineral fertilizers. Its cost, construction schedule and commissioning date have not yet been disclosed.
