An intergovernmental agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters is expected to accelerate procedures and facilitate bilateral trade between Russia and Algeria, Russian Ambassador to Algeria Alexey Solomatin said.
The document was signed following the 13th meeting of the Russia–Algeria Joint Intergovernmental Commission held in Moscow in June 2026.
What should change for companies
Implementation of the agreement provides for closer cooperation and information exchange between the customs authorities of the two countries. This could reduce administrative delays, improve cargo clearance transparency and facilitate access for Russian products to the Algerian market.
Simplified procedures are particularly important for supplies of industrial equipment, components, pharmaceuticals and agricultural products, where clearance times directly affect costs and contract performance.
Expanding business cooperation
Russia and Algeria also intend to develop projects in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, banking and transport. The intergovernmental commission adopted additional documents covering metrology, tourism, pharmaceutical inspections, science and other areas.
For businesses, the key issue will be translating the agreements into practical mechanisms: coordinated data exchange, clear documentation requirements and shorter customs clearance times.
