The 13th meeting of the Russian-Algerian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held in Moscow.
The meeting was co-chaired by Dmitry Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and Mohamed Arkab, Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of cooperation in energy, industry, agriculture, education, standardization, tourism and other areas. Particular attention was paid to expanding practical cooperation between Russian and Algerian companies.
Dmitry Patrushev noted that Algeria is one of Russia’s key partners in North Africa. According to him, bilateral trade continues to show steady growth, while cooperation between the two countries has significant potential for further development.
Agriculture remains one of the important areas of partnership. Over the past period of the current year, trade in agricultural products between Russia and Algeria increased by more than 40% compared to the same period last year. Russia also expanded its supplies of soybean oil, wheat and skimmed milk powder.
The parties also discussed cooperation in energy, the oil and gas sector, nuclear energy, mechanical engineering and metrology. On the sidelines of the meeting, a plan for the implementation of the memorandum in the field of metrology was signed. Agreements were also reached on cooperation in science, tourism and customs matters.
Following the meeting, Dmitry Patrushev and Mohamed Arkab signed the final protocol of the 13th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission.
The Russian-Algerian Business Council views the results of the meeting as an important step toward the further development of practical projects between the business communities of the two countries, including industrial cooperation, localization of production, logistics, agricultural cooperation and the promotion of joint initiatives in the markets of Russia, Algeria and African countries.
