Algeria’s National Electronic Industries Company (ENIE) has received official accreditation from the Electronic Payment Economic Interest Group, GIE Monétique. The company is now authorised to install and service all electronic payment terminals operating in Algeria, regardless of their brand or country of origin.
ENIE previously worked mainly with equipment of its own production. At the FIA 2026 Algiers International Fair, the company presented a new generation of terminals for shops, supermarkets, filling stations and industrial enterprises. The devices are manufactured at the Sidi Bel Abbès plant and operate on Linux and Android.
ENIE’s expanded role comes as Algeria accelerates the deployment of cashless payment infrastructure. According to the Trade Representation of Russia in Algeria, more than 112,000 POS terminals were operating in the country by the end of April 2026. A total of 33,272 new devices were installed during the first four months of the year, while monthly contactless transactions exceeded one million for the first time.
The market still has considerable room for growth. More than 1.6 million commercial, manufacturing and service businesses are registered with Algeria’s National Trade Register Centre, while current POS terminal penetration is estimated at approximately 5%.
The development of payment infrastructure creates opportunities for suppliers of equipment, software, cybersecurity solutions and financial service integration. The sector may also be of practical interest to Russian technology companies considering entry into the Algerian market.
