German commercial vehicle manufacturer MAN Truck & Bus has resumed local assembly of trucks and bus chassis in Algeria together with its long-standing partner Maghreb Truck Company (MTC). Production has restarted at the plant in Blida.
The facility operates two parallel assembly lines with a combined capacity of up to eight vehicles per day. Initial production focuses on MAN TGS trucks in 4×2, 6×4 and 8×4 configurations, primarily for long-haul, construction and infrastructure applications.
The partners aim to supply around 1,500 vehicles annually to the Algerian market in the medium term. MTC has represented MAN in Algeria since 2003 and operates service facilities in Algiers, Oran, Sétif and Laghouat. The company employs about 250 people, including 50 staff working in CKD production in Blida.
The restart reflects the recovery of Algeria’s automotive industry and the country’s emphasis on localisation, skills development and domestic value creation. It also signals opportunities for Russian companies in industrial cooperation, transport solutions, components and after-sales services.
