A professor of economics and Doctor of Economic Sciences (University of Algiers 3), Kamel Rezig also worked as a senior tax inspector and an academic at the University of Blida beginning in 1997. From 1999 to 2004, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the same university.
