On 11 October 2026, a delegation of the Russian-Algerian Business Council met in Algeria with the management of the state-owned mining group SONAREM.
The delegation was received by the group’s Director General, Reda Belhadj. The talks were also attended by the heads of several SONAREM divisions and Mehdi Bouguedoura, Chairman of the Algerian side of the Business Council.
SONAREM is Algeria’s largest state-owned mining group, comprising companies involved in geological exploration, mining and mineral processing. The group is involved in major projects to develop iron ore, phosphate, zinc, lead and other mineral deposits.
The talks covered opportunities for Russian companies to participate in SONAREM projects, the supply of mining and processing equipment, the introduction of modern technologies, and cooperation in geological exploration and specialist training.
“Algeria is actively developing its mining industry, and Russian companies can offer a wide range of solutions here — from equipment and engineering services to technologies for advanced processing of mineral raw materials. It is important for us to move on to considering specific projects and establish direct cooperation between interested companies,” said Ahmed Azimov, Chairman of the Russian-Algerian Business Council.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to identify priority projects and areas of cooperation, and to facilitate engagement between SONAREM and relevant Russian companies with the support of the Russian-Algerian Business Council.
