Trade in agricultural products between Russia and Algeria increased by more than 40% during the reported period of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, Russian Ambassador to Algeria Alexey Solomatin said.
The positive trend reflects sustained Algerian demand for Russian agricultural products and the expansion of practical cooperation between companies from the two countries.
Key drivers of growth
According to the ambassador, Russian exports of soybean oil, wheat and skimmed milk powder recorded particularly strong growth. In the first half of the year, soybean oil shipments to Algeria reached 149,000 tonnes, compared with 135,000 tonnes a year earlier.
The two sides are also exploring opportunities to diversify trade, improve customs procedures and develop direct links between Russian and Algerian enterprises.
Opportunities for business
Algeria remains one of North Africa’s largest food markets. The growth in bilateral trade creates additional opportunities for Russian producers of grain, vegetable oils, dairy products, animal feed and equipment for the agricultural sector.
A promising next step is to move from individual shipments towards long-term contracts, joint projects and technology exchange. This approach can support Algeria’s food security while expanding the presence of Russian companies in the country.
