Russia and Algeria have agreed to develop a medium-term roadmap for cooperation in geology and subsoil use. The document is expected to define practical areas of joint work and provide a framework for new projects involving Russian and Algerian organizations.
Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Alexander Kozlov announced the agreement. According to him, the decision to prepare the roadmap followed a meeting of the relevant bilateral working group held in late June 2026.
Key Areas of Cooperation
The proposed roadmap will cover the exploration and development of Algeria’s mineral resource base. Russian companies and research organizations have capabilities across the full range of geological work, from regional studies and geophysical surveys to resource assessment and reserve estimation for individual deposits.
Algeria holds significant mineral resources, including uranium, copper and manganese. Deeper cooperation could create additional opportunities for technology partnerships, equipment and service supplies, and the participation of Russian organizations in promising subsoil development projects.
Joint educational programs will form another part of the initiative. They will focus on training and retraining Algerian specialists in Earth sciences and facilitating the transfer of professional expertise.
For Russian businesses, the future roadmap could become a practical instrument defining priority projects, responsible organizations and formats for cooperation with Algerian partners.
