According to the Trade Representation of the Russian Federation in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, citing the latest Numbeo ranking, Algeria is among the countries with the lowest cost of living in the world.
Out of 155 countries covered by the ranking, Algeria ranks 135th, with an overall cost of living index of 27.97.
Key indicators for Algeria:
— Cost of Living Index — 27.97;
— Rent Index — 3.53;
— Cost of Living Plus Rent Index — 17.07;
— Groceries Index — 37.19;
— Restaurant Price Index — 16.54;
— Local Purchasing Power Index — 36.33.
As noted by the Russian Trade Representation in Algeria, the country is also among the twenty least expensive countries in the world in terms of housing, food and restaurant prices. At the same time, due to relatively low purchasing power and modest salary levels, access to these affordable goods and services remains limited for part of the local population.
The publication also notes that North African countries generally rank among the most affordable places to live in the world. Algeria’s cost of living is significantly lower than in its Maghreb neighbours, including Tunisia and Morocco.
