On June 26, Mohamed Arkab, Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mining and Renewable Energies of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, visited the Moscow Cathedral Mosque. The visit took place as part of the Algerian delegation’s trip to the Russian Federation to participate in the 13th meeting of the Russian-Algerian Intergovernmental Commission.

At the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, Mohamed Arkab met with Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation and Grand Mufti.

The meeting was attended by members of the Algerian delegation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Algeria to the Russian Federation Toufik Djouama, Chairman of the Russian-Algerian Business Council at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Ahmed Azimov, representatives of the Russian business community, as well as the leadership of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation.

During the conversation, the parties noted that the development of direct ties between state, business, religious and public institutions gives Russian-Algerian relations a more comprehensive and sustainable character, creating a strong foundation for long-term partnership.

Grand Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin presented the guests with the book The Problem of Ideas in the Muslim World by the outstanding Algerian thinker Malek Bennabi — the first Russian-language edition of works by this author. Malek Bennabi is regarded as one of the most prominent Muslim intellectuals of the 20th century, whose works are devoted to issues of civilizational development, culture and intellectual renewal.

Concluding the visit, Minister of State Mohamed Arkab highly praised the architecture and interior decoration of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.
