Opel has confirmed strategic steps to develop local vehicle and engine production in Algeria. A memorandum of understanding was signed in Berlin between Opel Automobile GmbH and AGM Holding Company SpA.

The project provides for the localisation of the first engine production in Algeria and the creation of the required local production capacity for the Opel brand. According to the company, the initiative is expected to support the development of Algeria’s automotive ecosystem.

For Algeria, the automotive industry remains one of the areas of industrial diversification. The development of local production, assembly and component supply chains can reduce dependence on imports and create new opportunities in related sectors.

The topic is also relevant for Russian companies operating in industrial equipment, automotive components, logistics, engineering and production project services.

The expansion of automotive localisation in Algeria shows that the country continues to build deeper manufacturing chains and opens new opportunities for technological and industrial partnership.
