Algeria’s state-owned pharmaceutical group SAIDAL and Swiss company Roche have signed an agreement to localize the production of breast cancer medicines in Algeria.
Production will be organized at SAIDAL’s facility in El Harrach, Algiers. The project will bring modern medicines manufacturing into the country and advance Algeria’s policy of reducing dependence on imports of strategically important pharmaceutical products.
Localization and technology transfer
The partnership with Roche is expected to support technology transfer, develop the expertise of Algerian specialists and introduce international manufacturing standards. It should also improve access to essential treatments and strengthen the national pharmaceutical production base.
Algeria has increasingly encouraged international manufacturers to localize pharmaceutical production. Such projects create opportunities for suppliers of production equipment, active ingredients, packaging solutions, quality-control systems and specialized engineering services.
For Russian companies, the expansion of local pharmaceutical manufacturing may open avenues for technology partnerships, joint research and participation in new industrial projects in Algeria.
